The monastery is situated in a scenic location, amongst several mounds in the Dadia area, where a possible ancient Greek Sanctuary was located. 

The establishment of the Monastery dates back to the Byzantine times. All the Bishops of Thrace gathered there in the 17th century to define the borders of their regions after the abolition of the Trainoupolis cathedral.

The catholic of the monastery, dedicated to the Birth of Virgin Mary, has been recently restored (as many other parts of the convent) and celebrates on the 8th of September.The convent comes under the Holy Cathedral of Didimoticho – Orestiada and Soufli and operates children’s campsites during the summer months.
